Conversations with a 4 1/2 year old

At dinner one night:
Cara: Francesco what is your favorite number?
Francesco: 100 (said one hundred)
Cara: Why do you like it?
Francesco: Cause that's what I want to be.
Michael: You want to get to a hundred (said a hundred)?
Francesco: No! I said one hundred!
Michael: Oh, I hope you get to One Hundred too!
Francesco: No Daddy, I said ONE HUNDRED, not one hundred and two!

At Bed Time
F: Why do we have to go night, night?
Me: Because it's dark out and the sun went down. When the sun comes up it will be wake up time.
F: When will the sun come up?
Me: In about nine hours.
F: Why did the sun go down?
Me: Because the Earth rotated and we are on the side away from the sun.
F: Why did the Earth rotate?
Me: So we can have night and days.
F: What about the Sun?
Me: What about it?
F: Does it rotate?
Me: Not sure, but we rotate around it, we orbit.
F: Whats orbit?
Me: It means we are moving around the sun.
F: All the time?
Me: Yes, all the time.
F: Why do we orbit?
Me: Because we are a planet and we orbit around the sun and it take a whole year.
F: You mean like like the Zula Patrol.
Me: Yes, like Zula Patrol
F: Oh, Okay.(Turns over on his side) Night, night Mommy.

I should have just started with the Zula Patrol and I might have gotten out of there sooner.

Car Conversations

I need to put these things down just so I don't forget.

On the way to school/work this morning Nicolo was playing with the voice recording on the DSi. Francesco's voice is recorded in all the files and Nicolo was making them do all kinds of funny sounds. Francesco proceeds to tell me how it's his voice and Nicolo should record his own to play with. I told him to let it go, he could play with the DSi on the way home. (now repeat the last two sentences 3 times.) Finally I got tired of the banter and said:
Me: For the last time, he is playing with the game now and you can play with on the way home. Do you understand?
Francesco: Yes.
Me: Good, then I don't want to hear another word about it. Got it?
Francesco: Yes, but your difficult.

I'm difficult? OMG, I hope to God he gets one just like him! :-)

Fast forward to the trip to the store after school/work.

Nicolo was telling us he wanted something, in the struggle to understand the word we figured out he was saying he wanted a bus and a car. I said we could look at the store. Francesco adds in the he wants a "Red Race Car with Flames". I again say we can look. They then have a little discussion between the two of them about what they want from the store. Francesco then asks me.
Francesco: Mommy, what do you want?
Me: Peace and quiet.
Francesco: Does that come in a box?
Me: I wish.
Francesco: We can look for it at the store.
Me: Now that I would pay money for!

Now don't think he forgot that we need to look for a box of "peace and quiet."

peace

So for a couple of bucks at Target, you too can get your very own box of "Peace and Quiet". Isn't it lovely?

At the Breakfast table~

M: What do you want for breakfast?
F: Can I watch Phineas and Ferb?

M: First tell me what you want for breakfast. Cheerios or Oatmeal?
F: I want to watch Phineas and Ferb.

M: I heard you but tell me what you want to eat. Banana or Strawberries?
F: (singing) Phineas and Ferb, Phineas and Ferb, Phineas and Ferb!

M: Come on Francesco, just tell me what you want to eat.
F: But Mommy, I have to tell you something.

M: Okay, I am listening.
F: I want to watch Phineas and Ferb.

M: I HEARD you the first time you said that, fine I'll decide what you eat.
F: But Mommy, I have to tell you something.

M: (getting the Cheerios and Banana together for him to eat) Go ahead tell me something.
F: I WANT TO WATCH PHINEAS AND FERB!!!!

M: Settle down! (I put the food in front of him)
F: Mommy?

M: Yes.
F: Can I tell you something?

M: I'm listening.
